Nestled just a few miles west of Exeter, Longdown (EX6) is a peaceful rural village with a fascinating history. Archaeological evidence suggests settlement here dates back to Saxon times, while the parish of Holcombe Burnell, meaning "deep valley", reflects the beautiful Devon landscape that surrounds the village. The name Longdown itself is thought to mean "long ridge or hill", perfectly describing its elevated position overlooking the countryside. Today, Longdown combines historic character with modern village life, complete with its own railway station and a thriving local community.
Today we visited this beautiful property in Longdown to carefully remove and collect five sets of cotton velvet curtains, complete with large pelmets and decorative swags, for specialist off-site dry cleaning.
Although we clean the vast majority of curtains in situ, on this occasion we were pleased to help the customer by carefully taking everything down. Their decorator is due to begin redecorating the room shortly, so removing the curtains now gives them a clear workspace while allowing us to professionally clean them before they are rehung.
The large pelmets have become almost part of the room itself and cannot realistically be removed without disturbing the surrounding ceiling and structure. These will therefore be professionally cleaned in situ when we return, while the decorator simply works carefully around them.
Once the decorating has been completed, we'll return to professionally refit all of the curtains before carrying out king-size mattress cleaning and carpet cleaning, ensuring the room is fresh, clean and ready to enjoy once again.
