Sometimes the best recommendation is simply seeing the finished result for yourself.
The previous week, MASTERCLEAN® had completed a substantial in-situ curtain cleaning job at a neighbouring property in Kingskerswell. Our client's neighbour came over to see the finished curtains and was so impressed with the result that she contacted our office straight away and booked us to return to clean her own.
This time, we were working with a beautiful set of 100% cotton printed curtains, professionally dry cleaned in situ without the disruption of taking them down and sending them away.
As always, though, the cleaning itself is only part of the job. From the initial inspection through to the final dressing of the pleats, careful preparation and attention to detail are every bit as important as the cleaning process itself.
Here's how we approached this latest curtain cleaning job in Kingskerswell, TQ12.
Careful Inspection Before Cleaning
Before any cleaning begins, we carefully inspect both the curtain fabric and the fittings supporting it.
The fabric and linings are checked for potential problems such as mould or mildew spotting, fly marks and other staining. Some of these marks can be extremely difficult — and occasionally impossible — to remove completely, so we make sure any limitations are explained before work begins. Where appropriate, affected areas are still individually treated during the cleaning process.
We also check that curtain poles or tracks are secure and inspect the condition of the hooks. Plastic curtain hooks can become brittle after years of exposure to sunlight, so where this is evident we ask whether the client has spares available should any need replacing during the clean.
Only once we're satisfied that everything has been properly inspected and any potential issues identified do we begin the cleaning process.
Removing Dust and Dry Soil
With the inspection complete, the first cleaning stage is a thorough specialist vacuum of both sides of the curtains.
Using a dedicated upholstery tool, we carefully remove accumulated dust and loose dry soil from the face and lining before introducing any cleaning solution. Removing as much dry contamination as possible at this stage is an important part of achieving the best finished result.
We also brush and clean the curtain rails and fittings, removing the dust, cobwebs and debris that can quietly accumulate above the curtains over many years.
With the curtains thoroughly prepared, we can then move on to the professional in-situ dry-cleaning process itself.
Professional In-Situ Dry Cleaning
Once the dry soil has been removed, the professional dry-cleaning solution is carefully applied to both sides of the curtains.
Specialist Tampico brushes are then used to gently work the solution through the fabric. The dry-cleaning solution begins working on contact, releasing the remaining soil while the fabric and colours start to brighten almost immediately.
The curtains are then thoroughly towelled, removing as much of the remaining dry-cleaning solution and released soil as possible.
This controlled process allows us to professionally clean the curtains while they remain hanging in their normal position, avoiding the inconvenience of taking them down and sending them away for cleaning.
Finishing Touches – and a Grand Slam Connection
Once cleaning is complete, we turn our attention to the final presentation. The curtains are carefully detailed and the pleats dressed so that the freshly cleaned fabric hangs beautifully when we leave.
Kingskerswell also has an interesting sporting connection. The village was the birthplace of Mike Sangster, who became British No. 1 and one of Britain's leading tennis players of his generation, reaching the semi-finals at Wimbledon, the US Championships and the French Championships.
So perhaps “It’s a Grand Slam!” wasn't such an unusual title for our latest visit to Kingskerswell after all!
